The town of Stalden VS marks the fork of the Saas and Matter valleys. From there, the cable car takes you up to the cozy mountain village of Gspon. Gspon offers a beautiful view into the Rhone Valley towards Visp and far into the Saas Valley to the Monte Moro Pass in the south.
The Gspon high route starts at the mountain station in Gspon. From there, after the mountain hotel «Alpenblick», turn right and descend along the wide path to the district «Ze Hischinu». Continue southwards always just above the tree line to Finilu. Before Finilu, the path turns left and passes a small chapel. Crossing a ditch, you reach the Upper Black Forest.
The path then first slopes down slightly, then climbs to Siwibode. From Siwibode, follow the path further to Hoferälpi, where you have a fantastic view of the vast Saas-Fee valley basin and its glacial world. Continuing towards Kreuzboden, you reach Grüebe.
Upon reaching Kreuzboden, the day’s destination, the Weissmies Hut, is already visible. The path leads eastwards uphill to the ski lift end and finally zigzags up to the end of the stage.

In unstable weather, it’s better to turn back early. Do not go onto glaciers without a mountain guide. Observe warning signs that indicate dangers. Inform third parties about your route and, if possible, never go alone. Pay attention to the opening hours of the mountain railways. The Saas Valley is easily and conveniently accessible by car from all directions, whether from Switzerland or abroad. From the north, you reach us via Bern through the Lötschberg car shuttle. From the east, you come via the Furka Pass or the Furka car shuttle.
