An ascent at the limit of human possibilities that climbs, along the most direct route, the very steep slopes of Col di Lana, the mountain known for being the scene of bloody clashes between Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers during the First World War.
An absolutely demanding route that, from the square near the Church of Pieve di Livinallongo, leads to about two km from the peak of the mountain and, more precisely, where the commemorative chapel and the bivouac are located: an ideal place, once at the top, to completely relax, catch your breath and recover strength while admiring the magnificent panorama that extends from the Lagazuoi, Tofana di Rozes and Settsass to the massif of the Sella Group, passing over the Pelmo, Civetta and the majestic glacier of Marmolada, the "Queen of the Dolomites".
The Col di Lana Vertikal KM usually takes place towards the end of July, coinciding with the patron saint festival of Pieve di Livinallongo, San Giacomo Maggiore, with a mass start at around 10:00 AM. The race is also open to children/youth from 8 to 16 years old (separated into boys and girls and into categories 8-12 and 13-16) with a dedicated course "Mini Vertikal" of 350 meters of positive elevation gain that, from the church of Pieve, reaches the locality "Prade". start around 11:30 AM.
At the finish, a big celebration for all with lunch, awards ceremony and musical entertainment.
