Circular hike - "Around the Ebertswiese" - Floh-Seligenthal - Thuringian Forest

The circular or loop route takes you to a famous waterfall and the best-known mountain lake in the Thuringian Forest.

You start directly at Neue Ausspanne on the Rennsteig. Here is the Rennsteig House and the hiking base. At the small snack stand, there is the best grilled sausage far and wide.

And off you go... Hike along the Rennsteig to Alte Ausspanne. Here the Thuringian Luther Trail separates from the Rennsteig. From here, the path leads west past Glasberg and directly to Ebertswiese. The wide plain forms a stark contrast to the otherwise dense forest areas up here. But before you reach the plateau, another attraction awaits you. Follow the small path along the Spitter to the right! After the hairpin turn at the path's end, you reach the Spitterfall. Here the small stream plunges 19 m down four stages. It is the highest natural waterfall in the Thuringian Forest.

Soon after, you reach the Spitterblick at the Hartstein quarry. Enjoy the fantastic view over the pit with lake and mining facilities. But back to the track. Along the Rennsteig, you return to Ebertswiese. Across the meadow, past the mountain rescue station, to the picturesque mountain lake.

Those who want can put their feet in the water here or go for a swim (at your own risk). Directly at the access to the mountain lake is Kurti's lodge, a small but fine snack stand.

On the way back, follow the road below Ebertswiese and soon reach the Rennsteig again, which leads you to Schmalkalder Hut. The Spitter, which you already know, crosses here as the only naturally flowing stream the famous hiking trail. The path back to Neue Ausspanne is already familiar to you.
