Circular hiking trail - TOP 2 - Masserberg - "Cultural Experience" - Friedrichshöhe - Thuringian Forest

The circular hiking trail "CULTURAL EXPERIENCE" Friedrichshöhe starts at the Hiking Competence Center at the Bathhouse in Masserberg. You turn right into Prof.-Georg-Lenz-Straße to the Georg Lenz Memorial. Here, enter the lower left hiking trail and continue towards Friedrichshöhe. Always through dense pine forest on comfortable paths, you go to the Eisfelder Ausspanne, where you can rest for half an hour with the delicacies your hiking backpack offers before you tackle the last stage over the Rennsteig to Friedrichshöhe. After about 7 km of hiking, two inviting inns with regional specialties await our visit in the smallest Rennsteig community in Friedrichshöhe. The way back to Masserberg also starts again along the Rennsteig up to Eisfelder Ausspanne, where we then turn left towards Heidehütte, Dreiherrenstein (Rennsteig hiking trail) and go up to the Rennsteigwarte with lookout tower on the Eselsberg (830 m above sea level). On a beautiful and clear day, climbing the tower (for a small fee) is definitely worth it. On the viewing platform of the tower you stand right in the middle of the forest and look over the dark green treetops into the beautiful Franconian region and the Thuringian Forest. You then reach the location Masserberg again via the wide, steep downhill path. At the bottom, arriving at Hotel Oberland, you can take another break in the cozy beer garden with Thuringian specialties and beer and conclude the quite demanding but beautiful hiking day.
