"Hiking and enjoying" are the focus of this circular hike starting at the Brandenburg parking lot. On the easy route, there are many opportunities to discover one or the other botanical specialty, but also not to lose sight of the entire variety of flora in this limestone-dominated landscape. And enjoying will always accompany the way as your gaze glides over the valley below along the gentle flow of the Werra.
Complete the day with a visit to the museum in the Kemenate of the Brandenburg ruins! You will meet "Georg von Reckrodt," a brave knight significant in the Reformation movement during Martin Luther’s time. He was born in the western castle of Brandenburg. From the observation tower, you can learn about the "Kuchenschieber," "Stiefel," and the "Glocke." What do these mean? Find out!
Places to eat are available in Lauchröden.
You start at the parking lot and walk the wide path toward the castle. A path crossing the meadow to the right leads you uphill to a way that you take to the right up to the edge of the forest. At the forest's edge, walk left uphill along the edge of the enchanted Stechberg. At the top, a hiking hut invites you to rest. You now walk left toward the castle through a hollow and along the forest edge opposite the castle. From here, you have a wonderful view of the extensive ruins. A meadow path along a row of trees leads you downhill to the castle's access road. Treat yourself to a visit to the castle grounds. Perhaps the museum in the Kemenate with the observation platform is open? Then walk back to the parking lot.
