Bike tour - 14 - "Thuringian Sea Discovery Tour" - Thuringia

The Thuringian Sea Discovery Tour around the Thuringian Sea is a versatile bike tour through the Thuringian Slate Mountains / Upper Saale Nature Park. Over about 50 kilometers, it connects reservoir sections, scenic heights, and numerous cultural sights. The start and end point is Bad Lobenstein, whose historic marketplace, spa park, and old castle complex with the regional museum offer a rewarding beginning. From here, the route first heads along the Saale cycle path towards Saaldorf. A detour to the Agnesruh viewpoint opens wide views over the Saale.

Through a forest restoration area, cyclists reach Saalburg, where dining options, passenger shipping on the Bleiloch Reservoir, the fairy tale forest, or the summer toboggan run invite for an eventful break. Along the Bleiloch Reservoir, the route continues on the Saale cycle path past the nature monument Stone Rose to Gräfenwarth. A landscape highlight is the ride over the dam of the Bleilochtalsperre with impressive views over the extensive reservoir landscape. Particularly recommended are the detours to Burgk Castle and the Saale Tower, which offers spectacular panoramic views over the Saale Valley. Through Friesau you finally arrive at Ebersdorf, where the generously laid out Ebersdorf Park with castle and orangery forms a quiet, scenic part of the tour. Afterwards, the route leads back to Bad Lobenstein, where the tour ideally ends with a relaxing visit to the Ardesia Thermal Bath.
