This route is for real mountain bikers who don't shy away from any terrain. Starting at Waldfrieden towards Allzunah, then passing Hundskopf. Here you have a nice view of the western Thuringian Forest....
This route is for real mountain bikers who don't shy away from any terrain. Starting at Waldfrieden towards Allzunah, then passing Hundskopf. Here you have a nice view of the western Thuringian Forest. Half a kilometer later, it goes left through the forest along the Hader river towards Massenmühle. Steeply uphill on the panorama path Stützerbach to the Auerhahn inn and continue towards Jagdhaus Gabelbach. The next station, Kickelhahn, Ilmenau’s local mountain, offers a great view, as does the Große Herrmannstein. You pass through Manebach and reach Meyersgrund along the mining educational path. From here it goes uphill to Schmücke (916 m above sea level). A beer garden with a view of the Thuringian Forest rewards the effort. Now mostly downhill and mountain bikers are sure to have fun. At the end you can reward yourself with a hearty steak.

Trail tolerance: on large parts of the routes you will be on your own. There will also be sections where you meet other nature lovers. All share the joy of nature and outdoor movement. A tolerant and friendly interaction contributes to a nice experience for everyone.
From the A71 take exit 16 (Ilmenau West) and continue on L3004 towards Ilmenau / Stützerbach / Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig. At Rennsteigkreuzung turn left towards Frauenwald and follow L1141 to the Allzunah / Neustadt a.R. junction. Then continue straight to Frauenwald.
You can reach Frauenwald from Ilmenau direction by bus line 300 (stop Rennsteigkreuzung - or [please note the branch schedule!] directly to the village). The circular route can also be started at the Rennsteigkreuzung at Rennsteig station - better infrastructure connection.
On weekends (Sat + Sun) you also have direct connection by train (RennsteigShuttle) from Erfurt / Ilmenau to Rennsteig station.
