This route will let you discover, in quick succession, three worlds and three different climatic conditions: from alpine conifer forests to vineyards, to Mediterranean palms. Cultural attractions are also not lacking: after about 12 kilometers, you cross the Dazio Grande, the old customs post where all travelers crossing the Gotthard had to pay the toll. A visit to the adjoining museum is a must. A few kilometers further on, in Faido, you can admire wooden houses decorated with carvings and dating back to the Renaissance, and shortly after, the first typical Ticino stone houses.
Then come modern works like the impressive Biaschina viaduct of the Gotthard motorway, which can be admired in all its grandeur with a short stop. After a long descent, it is worth stopping in Giornico, with its seven churches and chapels. Among them, the church of San Nicolao, the most significant Romanesque work in Ticino.
After Biasca, it is also possible to continue to Bellinzona following route no. 3 of La Svizzera in bici.
