Saale tour circular route Lunzberge and Brachwitzer Alps

One of the most scenic routes is the one into the porphyry hill country in the northwest of our city, which is traversed by the Saale. The route starts and ends at the market square, from where you pass via Große Klausstraße and Mansfelder Straße near the Saline Museum to reach the signposted Saale cycle path. You continue straight ahead over the Elisabethsaale and then turn right towards Peißnitz Island, where you are first greeted by the idyllic Gimritzer Park. At the end of the Birkenallee, which acts as the central axis of Peißnitz’s promenade, turn left towards the Schwanenbrücke, downstream of which a lovely riverside path follows along the Wilde Saale. This connects to Talstraße, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Giebichenstein Castle. At the Giebichenstein Bridge, the route meets the Saale cycle path and follows it through Kröllwitz, Lettin, the Unters Saaletal nature park, and the Lunzberge. Near Brachwitz, you cross to the opposite bank with the ferry and now follow the Saale upstream again through the Brachwitzer Alps and the Franzigmark. The route runs through northern Halle via Brachwitzer and Trothaer Straße and turns into Seebener Straße. Past the Bergzoo, it goes directly along the riverbank to Giebichenstein Castle and the Saale cycle path along the riverbank. At Heinrich-Heine-Park, you cross the Mühlgraben and continue via Ziegelwiese and Würfelwiese as well as the Pfälzer Ufer into Halle’s historic old town. Via Kleine Ulrichstraße, you return to the market square – the starting point of the route.
