The route takes us briskly out of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel into the flat landscape of the Altmark. Effortlessly, we glide on small paths through fields and small forests through pretty villages to the Arendsee.
Along the lake, we reach the town of Arendsee with its Romanesque monastery complex and numerous leisure opportunities.
We can also take a boat trip on the Arendsee and ride the Mississippi paddle steamer across the lake.
We ride through the medieval Hanseatic city of Salzwedel heading towards Arendsee.
Chüden, Rieden, and Mechau are the villages we pass through.
In Kaulitz, we turn sharply east and reach the Arendsee in Schrampe.
A good bicycle and something to drink.
The Altmark route is well signposted and we can safely glide through the Altmark by bike.
In Schrampe, take the small detour to Fischerei Kagel. Here you can find fish specialties such as smoked whitefish from the Arendsee in a small cozy beer garden.
