Footpath from "Stipse" car park / "Bikepark" bus stop to the Idarkopf Tower

The Idarkopf Tower is the new scenic highlight of the National Park Association Municipality Herrstein-Rhaunen in EdelSteinLand. From the platform of the observation tower over 31 m high, visitors can expect breathtaking views of the entire region.

On 21.10.2018, the old Idarkopf Tower suffered significant damage from a fire and had to be closed. The demolition work of the popular excursion destination in EdelSteinLand began in spring 2022, and the new building was completed in November. The new tower was constructed using an intelligent hybrid design of wood and hot-dip galvanized steel. The main supporting structure consists of 3 glued laminated spruce timber columns tapered toward the center. The new building, with a height of 31.1 m, is designed to last 80 to 100 years. The steel staircase with its 170 steps offers 9 resting platforms on the way to the observation platform. The observation platform resembles a bird's nest.

This magnificent viewpoint invites you to discover EdelSteinLand and the beautiful Hunsrück mid-mountain landscape from a different perspective.

We start at the "Stipse" car park and cross the K24. We take the uphill path straight ahead and follow the route about 1.2 km further uphill. Then we reach a junction where we keep right. We follow this asphalted/gravel path for about 800 meters and reach the Idarkopf Tower.

It is located on the fourth highest elevation in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Idarkopf. From the over 31 m high tower with its bird's nest platform, you can enjoy impressive views of the entire region.

The return to the car park is along the same route.

From A 61 or A 62 via B 41 to Fischbach-Weierbach, continue on L 160, after Herrstein at Weiden turn onto K 21. After the municipality of Hottenbach, turn right onto L 162 to Stipshausen. In the town, follow the K24 towards Hochscheid. About 500 m after leaving Stipshausen, the car park is on the left side.

Coming from B 327, you can reach the car park via Hochscheid by following K126/L24.

Line 890 (National Park bus between Neubrücke and Rhaunen) goes to the "Bikepark Idarkopf" stop. From there, a footpath to the Idarkopf Tower of about 2 km with almost 165 meters of elevation.

The "Stipse" car park is the parking lot of the former winter sports area and is located just behind Stipshausen, on the K24 between Stipshausen and Hochscheid on the left side.

About 500 m after leaving the village of Stipshausen, the car park is on the left side, on the K24.
