Fossil Walk: Stage 7 Piov Massaia - Cocconato

- Parish church of Santa Maria della Consolazione: a short distance from the route, the church was built in 1669, on the ruins of an older church which belonged to the Castle of Conti Radicati, lords of Cocconato: at the end of the 20th century, conservative restoration work brought the church back to its original splendour.- The Chapel of San Sebastiano is found along the main road Cocconato-Piov Massaia and is a building of 1886 in exposed brick and characterised in the facade by a massive portico of particular note; originally this space was used as a place of shelter and rest for travellers of the time. - Scenic roads: Piov Massaia is part of the tourist area called Colline del Po and Val Cerrina, reserving to the view continuous glimpses on the succession of vineyards and woods; another road of particular scenic importance is the one thatjoins Piov Massaia to Montiglio. - Itinerary Superga - Vezzolano - Crea: in the centre of Cocconato, you intercept the itinerary that winds for 65 km and connects the Natural Park of Superga, to the Natural Park of the Sacred Mountain of Crea, crossing numerous Municipalities in the Province of Turin, Asti and Alessandria. - Former railway station of Cocconato: until 2011, Cocconato was served by the Asti-Chivasso railway line, designed by the Swiss engineer Jaques Setter. It was52 kilometres long and inaugurated on 20 October 1912. The service is no longer in operation.
