The route winds along a military switchback road through a dense forest and leads to Poggio Tre Croci where three crosses are placed and from where you can enjoy a wide view of Bardonecchia and the surrounding mountains. The route continues along a grassy ridge up to Piano della Batteria, where some remains of military works of the Alpine Wall remain.
The road was built starting at the end of the nineteenth century and enhanced with the defensive system of the 1930s to reach Ricovero Rossero, Ricovero Turiccia, Batteria B3 and the Observatories of Punta Quattro Sorelle, crucial sites to control Colle della Rho and the passes on the right side of Valle Stretta.

From Piazza Campo della Fiera, climb along Viale San Rocco and cross the bridge on the left. Take the dirt road to the right following the signs for Poggio Tre Croci. Climb for about 7 kilometers following the numerous hairpin bends of the old mule track. Upon reaching Poggio Tre Croci, continue along the dirt road that climbs to the plateau above where the remains of Ricovero Rossero and those of Ricovero Turiccia are located, up to Piano della Batteria.

By car:
- Autostrada A32 Torino - Bardonecchia, Bardonecchia exit
- State Road 24: Torino - Oulx and then State Road 335: Oulx - Bardonecchia
Once you reach Bardonecchia, head towards Borgovecchio and reach Campo della Fiera.
By train:
- line Torino Porta Nuova - Bardonecchia
From the Bardonecchia train station, head towards Borgovecchio and reach Campo della Fiera.
Parking at Campo della Fiera (except on Thursday morning when it is market day)

Bring enough water supplies as there is only one fountain along the route, which is often dry.
Take a break for a picnic at Poggio Tre Croci or Piano della Batteria and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains and the town of Bardonecchia below.
