This linear route connects the largest waterfall in Europe with the largest contiguous vineyard area of the German-speaking part of Switzerland in the Schaffhausen Klettgau. At the center of this hike, always from border stone to border stone, are the geology and the botany.
Starting from Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Herbstäcker, the noise of the roaring waterfall falls silent and transitions into the peaceful quiet of the forests on the southern edge of Schaffhausen.
In this area, bog iron ore was mined since Roman times and verifiably from the 16th century onwards. Even today, intermittently renatured bog iron ore pits can be seen.
On the southern slope of Rossberg above Osterfingen lies the ruins of Radegg Castle. It was first mentioned in 1200 and was owned by the Lords of Rossberg. The castle was probably destroyed in conflicts with the surrounding nobility.
Even today, the walls of the castle can be seen, and the generously laid out barbecue area invites a break.
"Come as a guest, leave as a friend." This is the motto of the gourmet region Wilchingen, Osterfingen, Trasadingen at the destination of this route. These three municipalities are dedicated entirely to enjoyment.
The destination is the wine-growing community of Osterfingen with its unmistakable villagescape. Don’t miss the opportunity to savor an exquisite Schaffhausen Pinot Noir in the historic and newly renovated Bergtrotte.
