High contrasts
At the end of the 19th century, the golden age of wool removing transformed the narrow Arnette valley into a lively and industrious corridor, a succession of factories giving character to the "route des usines"… For years, agriculture and industry coexisted well but gradually had to give way to the forest. Going higher, towards the pastures, another atmosphere, green and airy, which you approach with chest open to the winds, eye delighted by the horizons and head close to the sky, welcomes us.
The spaces of Roquerlan, bleating or mooing, intimately forested or largely grassy, with functional buildings polished by time, gently express this pastoral poetry subtly conveyed by the rustic charm of the heights.
