More than 400 km of marked routes await you to discover the Creuse from east to west and north to south!
This Creuse route will allow you to discover the remarkable – and often little known – natural and cultural heritage of a department rich in remarkable and surprising sites!
From the Creuse painters’ valley to Lake Vassivière, passing through Aubusson, the Landes pond Nature Reserve, the medieval towns of La Souterraine, Bénévent l’Abbaye, Bourganeuf, or the abbey church of Chambon/Voueize and the Evaux les Bains spa town, the countryside with continuously changing landscapes unfolds along the small roads.
This stage starts in Chambon sur Voueize, a major site for Romanesque art with its imposing 11th-century Sainte Valérie Abbey church. On this route, follow in the footsteps of George Sand in Boussac, which hosts a majestic castle on its cliff top.
The rest of the route follows the northern link of the cycle route and will take you to the village of Châtelus Malvaleix.
On low-traffic roads, this stage of 56 km with 687 m of positive elevation gain will be short and rather hilly. Watch out for the 5 km climb from the hamlet of “Ventenat” to the village of Toulx Sainte Croix. Throughout your route, you will be guided by green and white cycle route signage.
Chambonchard Link (13 km with 185 m ascent)
There is a 13 km link option to the village of Chambonchard (at the Allier border) starting from Chambon sur Voueize via Evaux les Bains.
Allier Link (11 km with 114 m ascent)
There is an 11 km link option to Allier starting from Boussac via Saint Pierre le Bost.
