Discovery Loop Views of the Ruhr Region

At the northern end of the neanderland region, the Discovery Loop “Views of the Ruhr Region” joins the 5th leg of the neanderland STEIG. When the weather is fine it offers stunning views of the Ruhr region. From the top of Vossnacken hill, you can see the gasometers in Oberhausen, the Tetrahedron sculpture in Bottrop, Villa Hügel in Essen, the Schalke Arena in Gelsenkirchen right through to the astronomical observatory in Bochum. Flowering landscapes and mixed forests range as far as the eye can see.

Characterised by agriculture, recreation and monuments you would never expect to find a cultural gem such as Langenberg in such close proximity to the big cities. The art association Kunsthausverein Langenberg was founded in 1992, based on the cultural programmes offered by the community centre Bürgerhaus Langenberg and the Vereinigte Gesellschaft cultural association, which were shaped by 19th-century entrepreneurs. In 2001, the association Bücherstadt Langenberg was founded. Antiques and small museums, exhibitions, events such as readings, cabaret and music of all genres today provide a wide range of cultural offerings.
