We start at the ferry parking lot; the old ferry was discontinued in 2003, today a blue bridge, called the Blue Wonder, leads single-lane across the Weser to the village of Daspe. Alternatively, you can also start at the Sievershagen Mill (please then start at this point in the text of this route description). We go to the B83 (Main street), cross it, keep right and turn left at the supermarket into L586 (main street; signposted Ottenstein/Sievershagen). After 200 m, behind the Arte Cafe, we turn right into the street Weserblick and after a few meters left into Brönenberg. We steadily climb uphill on this street until a street sign blocks the way due to the quarry. We follow a meadow path to the left, which leads us upwards along the quarry area. Yellow warning signs repeatedly instruct us to take cover after a horn signal; we are below the Hehlen Quarry (how the cover is supposed to work, however, is not communicated). The path continues through the forest; we pass the sign “Forest boundary. Forestry cooperative Hehlen-Daspe-Frenke,” gently uphill. After about 1.2 km, the path turns left and after 30 m we meet the L586. To the right, a gravel forest road leads uphill; we stay on this for 550 m, at the distinctive crossroads we leave the well-developed forest road to the left and follow the inconspicuous forest path. After about 1000 m, we hit another forest road; we turn left towards the Sievershagen Mill, which lies down in the valley (if you like, you should take a refreshment in the old mill, about 100 m uphill from the country road). We cross the L586 again half-left and use the forest road on the right, which first crosses the Sievershagen Brook and then climbs noticeably half-left to the Övelgönne Manor. We stay in the near-natural high forest, after almost a kilometre we reach a crossroads, which we pass straight ahead. Another 400 m and the forest edge and the Övelgönne Manor are reached. We keep left and enter the unprotected Ottenstein High Plateau at 200 m elevation; we have reached the highest point of the hike. After 200 m, an ergonomically excellently designed bench invites you to linger. The view goes left over to the Weser, in front of us lies the Schiffberg. Well rested, we continue gently downhill. We cross a completely untouched forest area; you can imagine how our primeval forests looked in the past. After about 1 km, we have reached the forest edge; the view of the romantic Weser valley and the dreamily situated Hehlen forms another highlight. Directly at the forest edge, not on the gravel path in front of it, we continue our path to the left to the next forest corner. Here we turn left and march downhill on a well-developed forest road towards Hehlen. Shortly before the village, we reach an asphalt path; we keep left and after a few meters have reached Hehlen. We meet the K11, which leads to Brökeln, we keep left on the street Am Thie, which becomes Mühlenstraße. To the right, below the Immanuel Church built in 1699, the narrow Kirchweg branches off; we follow this and after a few meters meet the K11 again, which is now called Alte Schulstraße. We continue towards the Weser, cross the B83, and have reached our starting point again at the Blue Wonder.
