Stage 5 Four-Country Border Cycle Path: Hitzacker-Lübeln

On the way, you ride through vast natural areas where meadows stretch to the horizon. The next town after Hitzacker is Dannenberg. Of the castle that once stood here, only the historically significant Waldemarturm remains today, where King Valdemar of Denmark was held prisoner for a long time. Today, you can visit a museum there. After riding parallel to the Jeetzel through the lowlands, you will encounter many small circular villages west of the federal road, which you cross in Jameln. These represent the traditional settlement form of the Slavs in the Wendland.
A small detour takes you to the former barracks in Neu Tramm, a relic of the Third Reich. In a secret operation, the first V1 rockets were built here. During the division of Germany, this barracks was used by the Federal Border Guard, and today it houses training and art rooms.
Continuing through the villages, you arrive at the end of this route in Lübeln. Here you will find the Rundling Museum, a very beautiful open-air museum where you can learn a lot about the history of the Wendland.
