The Sentiero del Sole is one of the most accessible and scenic walks in Limone sul Garda. The views can even reach Sirmione and the lower lake area on a clear sunny day.
The starting point for this excursion...
The starting point for this excursion is the centre of Limone sul Garda and, more precisely, Lungolago Marconi
(the Marconi lakefront).
From here, walk through the town centre , keeping the small church of San Rocco on your left (we suggest going up to the church's terrace to admire the panoramic view over Limone) and walk along Via Nova among olive trees and bougainvillaea.
The signs to follow are those of the Sentiero del Sole -Ciclabile del Garda 135 , which are always clearly visible along the route.
Keep following the asphalt road, and shortly after passing the Villa Romantica Hotel, you will come to a crossroads with a trail to the left for the Sopino waterfall.
Head straight, pass a small fountain where you can fill your water bottle, and continue slightly uphill until you reach the starting point of the famous Limone suspended pedestrian cycle path (2.5 km from the centre of Limone).
We suggest walking along the suspended pedestrian cycle path and then returning along the Sentiero del Sole.
The road nestled between the mountains close to the waters of Lake Garda is truly very picturesque to travel, both on foot and by bike. It is 2.5 meters wide, and you can travel it in total safety, enjoying a unique spectacle overlooking the waters of Lake Garda and the peaks of Mount Baldo.
Walk to the end and then backtrack for a bit to Cape Reamol.
You leave the pedestrian cycle path and cross the Gardesana road to join the Sentiero del Sole (clearly visible signs).
Don't miss the scenic view spot, which can be reached with a short detour to the right, leading to the Italian army's WWI emplacements. The front between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire was, in fact, right near here.
Return to the main trail and go right on a trail that leads to some WWI bunkers and tunnels with breathtaking views of the lake!
Now it is time to go back to Limone. Head south on Sentiero del Sole, which starts to descend slightly. Then, enter the vegetation, and head uphill again, passing by a furnace (explanatory signs). A little further, you reach a panoramic bench with an immense view of the lake. Obviously, this is a photo stop!
After the bench, there is a steep descent amidst stones and gravel. Be careful on the narrow hairpin turns, which are a bit slippery. This trail ends in Gardesana, near the beginning of the pedestrian cycle path.
From here, return to the village centre following the trail you took to get there, but not before taking a selfie with the message I love Limone More Than Ever!
