On November 16, 2024, the Blaahaus Museum was officially opened with a new permanent exhibition. After a one-year closure, the Blaahaus now features a comprehensive, newly designed permanent exhibition dedicated to the industrial history of Kiefersfelden.
Unique: 400 Years of Industrial History in the Alpine Region
With its multitude of local businesses, Kiefersfelden has written a unique chapter in the industrial history of the Bavarian Alpine region. Iron, scythes, marble, and cement: The region’s products are not only diverse but also demonstrate how the region has repeatedly adapted to structural change. This is where the new Kiefersfelden Industrial Museum comes in, dedicating itself to the municipality’s 400-year industrial history. The museum building itself—the Blaahaus—remains the most important testament to the industrial tradition: built in 1696 as housing for the ironworks’ workers, the building is a listed historic site and invites visitors to trace the daily lives of the former workers.
13 focal points reimagined
The former living quarters house 13 exhibition areas, which have been curated in a dramatically engaging and varied manner. The individual themes cover the history of the coal, iron, scythe, marble, and cement industries, as well as sociocultural topics such as folk theater, musical traditions, and the local club scene.
