This path will lead you to meet personalities (Pissarro, Luce, Renoir, Jouanny, Monet…) and as many movements (Impressionism, Divisionism, Cubism), techniques, and artistic styles. Presented in their original context, these representations will allow you to enjoy the village as it was during the Belle Epoque while inviting you to put, in turn, an artist’s eye on the monuments, streets, and landscapes as they are today.
Most Beautiful Village of France
The village of La Roche-Guyon is worth the detour on its own: its picturesque alleys, its castle, the banks of the Seine, but also the natural reserve of the Seine slopes overlooking the village.
La Roche-Guyon is today the only village classified as Most Beautiful Village of France in the region.
This circuit is offered by the Vexin Regional Natural Park and available on Val d'Oise MyBalade
From the parking, head towards the first panel presenting the circuit and a painting by Paul Jouanny.
Take the left path along the brick wall of the kitchen garden and emerge onto the Seine at the river stop where there is a reproduction of a painting by Maximilien Luce.
Continue along the grassy promenade to the painting by Theodore Robinson and reach the old bridge pier where there is another reproduction of a painting by Maximilien Luce.
Continue under the linden tree alley to discover a first reproduction by Camille Pissarro, go to the right to discover a second. Then climb along the edge of the field to reach the playground where there is a third painting by Pissarro.
Retrace your steps and take Paul-Dauvergne street. At the intersection with Quai street is a reproduction of Renoir. Continue along Paul-Dauvergne street and turn left onto Ile-Frion street, passing in front of the reproduction of Pissarro's mill and at the end go around the hall on the right to see the painting "A square in La Roche-Guyon", also by Camille Pissarro.
Cross carefully General-Leclerc street and take almost opposite Grimpereau street at the end of which there is a reproduction of Claude Monet. Climb the stairs to join Audience street and see, passing on the wall of the corner house, the reproduction of Paul Jouanny. Go down the street and enter the kitchen garden at the corner of La Gabelle. To the right of the stairs is a reproduction of Georges Braque.
Exit the garden through the next door to emerge onto Hospital street and follow the path to the roundabout. Pass the roundabout and start climbing. Cross and take Glacière street. At the end, turn right and climb Vieille-Charrière de Gasny street to a point where there is the view of Paul Cézanne's winding road.
Descend by the same path to the roundabout to return to the parking lot.
If you venture beyond the Painters' Path towards the Seine Slopes, only use the marked trails (GR2). It is a protected site.
