The FRINO Trail: The Spirit of the Forest

The 2-km trail, which takes about an hour to complete, runs through the area from Forni Avoltri to Pierabech, starting near the barn of the Fauner Farm, where you can leave your car in a dirt parking area and then continue on foot. At the entrance to the dirt road

there is a large sign depicting the Giants’ layout along the route.

You can also park your car near the cemetery and then walk about 800 meters along a paved road to the start of the actual trail.

The Frino Trail can also be hiked in the opposite direction, by parking your car near the little church of Pierabech (near the Goccia di Carnia mineral water plant) and then, a short distance beyond that, taking the trail that descends to the right and leads directly to Prato di Frino.

From the town of Forni Avoltri, take the road leading to the hamlets. Just past the Albergo Sottocorona, at the curve (where there is an Enel utility box painted with the “Fornets” characters), continue straight ahead toward the north.

Alternatively, just outside the village of Forni Avoltri (toward Sappada), after crossing the bridge over the Degano River, turn right and follow the road that leads to Pierabech in 2 km.

If you choose to start from Forni, you can park your car near the cemetery or in a dirt parking area next to the barn of the Fauner Farm, where the actual trail begins.

If you start from Pierabech, just past the Chiesetta Bianca (the former cemetery for World War I veterans), there is a parking area on the side of the road where you can leave your car.
