S22 Burgblickrundweg

The trail starts at Friedensburg Stadtschlaining and quickly leads through the moat into green forests and out of the village into the surrounding rolling hills. After about 330 meters away from the castle, the trail runs a short distance along the main road before heading uphill through the forest towards Schönau.

When you reach the highest point of this hike, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view: a viewpoint with an interactive telescope and a place to rest offers a magnificent panoramic view not only of Friedensburg Schlaining and the wonderful hilly landscape of southern Burgenland: the view extends from Wechsel to the Graz hills, the Schöckel over Riegersburg and, on a clear day, as far as the Koralm and the hills near Gleichenberg.

A short descent takes you to the romantic, sleepy village of Schönau, from where you walk through beautiful forests and along a paved path to Altschlaining. At the war memorial in the center of the village, there is a cozy rest area before continuing uphill and across gently rolling countryside back to the starting point in Stadtschlaining.

Back at the starting point in Stadtschlaining

Back in Stadtschlaining, you can recharge your batteries in one of the small cafés or in the Friedensburg bistro, where you will receive a warm welcome. Take some time to visit the Friedensburg Schlaining and the wine tasting room with the best Burgenland wines from all six DAC regions! The former synagogue is also well worth seeing.
