Mountain route - ridge hike from Heimgarten to Herzogstand

A rather rewarding mountain hike is the ridge hike from Heimgarten to Herzogstand and to the Herzogstand houses (operated). This ridge hike is not dangerous, but only experienced mountaineers should undertake this route. If you do not want to return to Heimgarten, you can take a gondola from Herzogstand to Walchensee and from there take the bus via Kochel to Ohlstadt.

The hiking and cycling paths described by us primarily serve forest management; use is at your own risk (§ 14 para. 1 BWaldG).

Bus stop: Ohlstadt village center

Bus lines: 9607 Murnau - Ohlstadt - Ettal and back (Note: Operation only on Saturdays during school days of the Ettal monastery school!)

9611 Kochel - Schlehdorf - Großweil - Ohlstadt - Murnau (Note: The open-air museum Glentleiten is only served from April to October!)

Guests of the "Das Blaue Land" region as well as the "Ammergau Alps" can use a variety of bus lines as well as train lines from Murnau to Oberammergau and from Uffing to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for free with the electronic guest card or KönigsCard.
