Hedwig Courths-Mahler (1867–1950) was the most successful romance novelist of her time. Within 50 years, she wrote over 200 novels, translated into 37 languages, reaching a total circulation of about 80 million. In 1933, the bestselling author born in Nebra and living in Berlin bought a villa in Tegernsee, which she moved into in 1935. Her two daughters, Margarete Elzer and Friede Birkner, who also became bestselling authors, moved with her.

The walk goes from the Hedwig Courths-Mahler park (1) on to Schwaighofstraße 47 (2). Courths-Mahler's former residence is clearly visible on the slope above the Prinzenkapelle. Then to the family grave at Tegernsee cemetery (3) on Seestraße 15. Afterwards, you can continue by boat (get off at Kurpark), bus (get off at Seeforum), or on foot to Rottach-Egern to the municipal cemetery (4) at Kißlingerstraße 41, where Friede Birkner is buried. Those still interested can then walk via Karl-Theodor-Straße to Birknerweg (5), where her house once stood.

About the Tegernsee LiteraTours (TELITO) project
"TELITO" is a model and demonstration project within the framework of the "Federal Program for Rural Development (BULE)" and the announcement "Land culture – cultural activities and participation in rural areas".
It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). "TELITO" is carried out by Literaturschloß Edelstetten e.V. under the direction of its chairman Prof. Dr. Klaus Wolf. Its two project staff members are the literature and cultural scientist Dr. Ingvild Richardsen (Munich/Augsburg) and the literary scholar Dr. Peter Czoik (Munich).
