The BergKäse Route can be started in Oberstaufen and leads from there via Kalzhofen to Thalkirchdorf. Following the traces of Bergkäse, a stop at one of the inns or village shops is recommended (e.g., Dorfkäserei Nußbaumer, Dorfhaus with cheese school). Returning via Oberstaufen, the route goes through the hilly pre-Alpine landscape. Shortly before Weißenbachmühle, we recommend turning off the bike path to take a detour to Wolfsried. At the local "Käs- und Hof-Lädele," the "Sennalpe-Käsberg" is produced on-site according to old tradition using milk from hay milk cows. The special spiciness of the alpine herbs gives our cheese its distinctive flavor. The farm shop also offers homemade cheese specialties, sausages from their own livestock, gifts, gift baskets, other regional delicacies, and even its own milk tap. Passing through the "herb village," Stiefenhofen is soon reached, dedicated to the healing world of medicinal plants. On the way, a detour to the Rutzhofen dairy is worth it, where the best hay milk cheese is made using centuries-old methods. From Rutzhofen, you cycle steadily uphill to Hopfen. On the way, you pass the Artemisia herb garden, which fascinates with medicinal and spice plants. You can try house-made teas, coffee, and cake in the guest room, and shop to your heart's content in the adjoining herb shop. From here, it's back to Oberstaufen.
