Natura Trail Western Lower Lake, Radolfzeller Aach, Randen

The cycling route starts and ends at the NaturFreundehaus Bodensee in Markelfingen. It leads along the cycle path to the Markelfingen campsite. From there, following the shore path always to the left of the railway line, the route goes to Radolfzell. Here you cycle along the lakeside promenade past the station with a view of the Zeller See on the cycle path towards Moos and Stein am Rhein. At the exit of Radolfzell, at the roundabout near the riding stables, turn right towards Überlingen am Ried. Cross the road at the solar park of Solar Complex and choose the cycle path to Moos through the Aachried (nature reserve). In Moos, turn right at the Haus Gottfried and after 150 m turn left onto the cycle path towards Bankholzen/Bohlingen. After another kilometer, turn right into Aachweg (nature reserve). After about 1.5 km at the farm, continue straight ahead (do not turn right to Bohlingen). After one kilometer, you reach the district road (K6160). Turn right here, cross the street after 50 m, and follow the field path on the right. While now seeing the Schiener Berg with its hillside mixed forests on your left, you can see the Aach to the Hegau to the right. After about 1.3 km on a paved path, turn left and cycle past the Hittisheimer Hof (border) to Ramsen.

In Ramsen, cross the main street and cycle through the village towards Buch/Thayngen. At the end of Ramsen, cross the Biber. Here the routes of the two tour suggestions separate.

Alternative 1: After crossing the Biber, turn left into Betteltalstr. after 30 m. On partly gravel and paved paths, always ride straight ahead towards the Rhine, with the Biber in sight, until you reach Bibermühle after about 3.5 km. Here turn left. Via Hemishofen, you reach Stein am Rhein with the Rhine on the right-hand side in view. After visiting the picturesque old town, continue along the road towards Radolfzell and Öhningen. At the end of Stein, turn right into Rhigüetliweg onto the Bodensee cycle path and cross the border on the lake shore path to Öhningen. Straight on the cycle path, you have to overcome a climb in Kattenhorn. A spectacular panorama of the Lower Lake and the Swiss shore now opens up on the Bodensee cycle path from Wangen, via Hemmenhofen to Gaienhofen. At the exit of Gaienhofen, turn right onto the cycle path to Radolfzell. In Horn at the lakeside castle, turn left and after about 400 m turn right towards Seehörnle. From the Hornspitze nature reserve with a unique view of Reichenau, the Lower Lake as far as the Hegau, you reach Moos via the shore path over Gundholzen and Iznang. On Mooser Allee, cross the Aach before its mouth and then reach the entrance to Radolfzell. On now familiar paths, it goes back to Markelfingen.

Alternative 2: After crossing the Biber, take the cycle path to the right towards Buch/Thayngen (red marking Route No. 753). From Buch, the route leads across the border to Murbach/Randegg. Before Murbach, turn right at Holzhaus and follow the route to the Biber. Before the Biber, turn left onto the cycle path. The cycle path, which switches the river side from time to time, passes Randegg to Bietingen. From here, continue on cycle path (No. 753) over the border to Thayngen (industrial and customs area). Continuing to follow cycle path No. 753 (within sight of the highway), you reach Schaffhausen and follow the cycle path into the city center. At the first roundabout in Herblingen, go straight on the cycle path towards Schaffhausen old town (see Alternative 2a). Here you reach the Schaffhausen station, from where you can return to Radolfzell Markelfingen by train. It is also conceivable to arrive by train to Schaffhausen to start the second part of the stage from here. After visiting the Schaffhausen old town, take the cycle path from the ship pier, always keeping the Rhine in sight; along the road to Büsingen, a German exclave in Switzerland. At the exit of Büsingen, turn right into Diessenhoferstr. Through the Büsingen-Gailingen landscape protection area along the Rhine and past vineyards, you reach Gailingen. Past the wooden bridge, always straight ahead, the path continues through the Büsingen-Gailingen landscape protection area to Johannihof. After a small ascent, a beech mixed forest is reached. On a forest path, the cycling route continues on the still signposted route towards Stein am Rhein and Bibermühle. At Bibermühle, the routes of Alternative 1 and 2 meet again.

Alternative 2 a: Excursion to NaturFreundehaus Buchberghaus in Merishausen (approx. 9 km). At the first roundabout in Herblingen, turn right along Hochstr., following the ascent towards Bargen. After about 1.8 km, take the cycle path to the right of the motorway to Merishausen. At the entrance to Merishausen, cross the main road and follow Dostentalstr. Straight past the parking lot, follow the steep asphalt road to Buchberghaus (707 m above sea level). The Buchberghaus, surrounded by forest and meadows, lies in a magnificent hiking area on a high plateau of the Randen.
