This stage begins at the historic timber-frame and market town of Haslach im Kinzigtal. The entire old town has been under monument protection since 1978. It is worthwhile to plan some time to explore the place. Then it continues along the Kinzig to the next destination: the romantic gem Gengenbach, also called “Baden Nice.” The town charms from afar with its towers and gates. The next stop is Offenbach city center, where we admire the baroque town hall from 1741 and the picturesque fish market. Then the route goes through the charming landscape of Ortenau towards Ebersweier. Passing through the small town of Ulm, it continues to Kappelrodeck, where the most striking building is Rodeck Castle. A cozy break can be taken at the market square. The bike ride ends in Sasbachwalden. Bright white timber-frame houses shape the village center of this wine village with Black Forest flair. Surrounded by vineyards and chestnut forests, the picturesque village is an absolute highlight of the route.
Through Ortenau it goes from the beautiful Kinzigtal towards the Rhine plain to the peaceful village of Biberach. From there – with the steep slopes of the Black Forest foothills to the right – you reach the formerly free imperial city of Gengenbach. A real timber-frame highlight with idyllic lanes, the remarkable market square, and the adjacent monastery complex. Soon we reach Ortenberg, easily recognized by the castle above the town, which houses a youth hostel. Not far from there we reach the district town Offenburg, situated in the heart of Ortenau. The baroque backdrop of the main street is worth seeing. We leave the town heading north, passing Bohlsbach and Ebersweier, then reach Appenweier. From here it goes from the Rhine valley back into the Black Forest via Zusenhofen and Erlach to Ulm. A visit and tasting at the Bauhöfer brewery, which has established brewing culture in the town, is always worthwhile. Through the picturesque landscape of Ortenau it goes to Kappelrodeck, surrounded by vineyards that produce excellent drops. Over the Knetschwasen saddle you reach the stage destination, the timber-frame and flower village Sasbachwalden.
