Maikammer - Palatinate Almond Trail (Circular Route)

Variant 1 from the Maikammer/Kirrweiler hiking station starts on the main road towards Kirrweiler. Here, immediately turn left into Raiffeisenstraße and after only a few meters, turn left again into Neustädter Weg. (Start Variant 1) After about 400 meters, you reach a hiking trail junction where the Mandelpfad circular route begins. At this junction, please keep right and then go straight over the motorway. After about 350 meters, keep slightly left and after another 300 meters turn left towards Kirrweiler. Right before the town, on the left, there is a very beautiful information board, and opposite it, the lovely Marien Chapel with the adjoining cemetery can be seen. The path continues straight until the bending priority road. Here, please follow the road to the left until you reach the Kropsbach stream. Now turn right onto the small path up to the wooden bridge. From there, it continues to the left, then right, and at the next opportunity left. Then turn right onto Edenkobener Weg. From here, about 3 km straight over the motorway and later the L 516 and L 512 towards Maikammer. Then a left turn and immediately right again, following the course of the Palatinate Almond Trail. After another 550 meters or 10 minutes, turn right at a trail junction. Now it goes slightly uphill. Directly after the rain retention basins (left), please turn right. But be careful, after a few meters keep left again immediately. After about 800 meters (halfway the road crossing towards St. Martin), turn left again towards the mountains (Variant 2: right to the starting point Wanderparkplatz Alsterweiler). At the end of the path, turn right, passing the Alster fountain, until the Kalmithöhenstraße.

(Variant 2: from Wanderparkplatz Alsterweiler) From the parking lot, go right until the end of the path, about 400m or 5 minutes, then right (passing the Alster fountain) to the Kalmithöhenstraße.

Cross the Kalmithöhenstraße and go straight past the Domblick. The Domblick is a wonderful picnic spot with a very nice view over Maikammer and the Rhine plain. About 250 m after the picnic spot, go right onto an unpaved path and a short way back until it goes slightly downhill to the left again. Follow this path to the next paved road. Here briefly right and immediately left again to the first houses of Maikammer. Now left and after a few meters, at the distinctive trail cross under a birch, turn right. Before Winzerhof Ernst, turn left to the next paved road and follow it to the right to the L 512. At the road, go a few steps right, then cross the street. Continue straight ahead until the L516. Turn left here until it can be crossed, then about 5 more minutes straight ahead and then right. * After a few meters, it goes directly back to the Maikammer-Kirrweiler station. (*Variant 2: after about 300 m, go left and from here follow the course of the route starting with Variant 1).

This trail requires no special safety precautions. It mostly runs over vineyard paths resembling road surfaces. 

Take the Palatina bus, line 500, from Landau or Neustadt to Maikammer to the Alsterweiler Kapelle stop. From there, about 5 minutes on foot along Kapellenweg, starting west of the Alsterweiler Chapel, to the starting point Wanderparkplatz Maikammer-Alsterweiler. Leave space for emergency vehicles and agricultural machinery. Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic, please.
