The hamlet of Alboni, the starting point of the excursion, is located on a grassy plateau, a sort of natural balcony on the beauties of Val Grande. The houses have almost all been recently renovated using exposed stone and wood.
The first part of the route climbs beech and spruce woods.
The ascent path then connects the different alpine pastures that have been used for a long time at different times of the summer to make the best use of grass growth. You then cross the Pian delle Riane, a fascinating glacial basin, colored in late spring by the blooming of numerous flowers.
In the upper part you walk between alpine pastures interspersed with curious solitary boulders.
The Unghiasse lake fills a natural basin and allows you to enjoy a wide panorama of the Val Grande and numerous peaks, including the nearby Uja di Ciamarella (3676 m) towering above.

Where the road ends, take the path that runs alongside a washhouse; after about a hundred meters, take the path on the left that climbs into the woods until it intersects a dirt road to take to the right. You then reach the vicinity of the Vaccheria alpine pasture (1630 m) where you leave the dirt road and take the uphill path. The path climbs steeply to the Pian delle Riane where you need to cross the stream and then take the narrow path that climbs on the left watershed side. You then reach the Gias Vecchio alpine pasture and later the Laietto alpine pasture (2298 m) which should be kept on your left. Shortly above, you cross the fork from which you will return downhill (proceeding slightly to the right). The path then climbs steeply to the hillock (2490 m) from which you can see the nearby Gran Lago di Unghiasse.
Once you reach the lake, turn left to walk alongside it, then the path continues with a slight ascent until it meets the Lago della Fertà. Where the lake's emissary begins, the descent path starts which, sometimes faint, descends the natural basin until the intersection with the ascent path. From here, follow the outbound route in reverse.
Non-slip sole footwear, wind/rain protection, a warm layer, hat and sunglasses, water and food supply are recommended
In the upper part, the path is often just a trace, especially the section connecting Lago della Fertà with the ascent route: in case of fog follow the white/red marks and carefully consider whether to continue or descend.
Enter the Valli di Lanzo, just before Ceres turn right at the traffic light and enter the Val Grande di Lanzo. Upon reaching Pialpetta, just past the camper area, turn right towards Alboni/Rivotti. After about one kilometer at a fork turn right to Alboni. Then continue until you reach the hamlet.
There is a small parking area above the hamlet where the road ends. Alternatively, park before the hamlet in the small road-side clearings.
To deepen the historical and naturalistic knowledge of these places, I recommend reading this post on the Camosci Bianchi blog.
From the Gran Lago di Unghiasse you can make a detour to the second Unghiasse lake.
