The former fortress is located at an altitude of 1,209 m above the Mur Valley and is considered the highest castle in Styria. Flint Castle was built around 1131 on the highest point of the castle grounds and was sold on to the Benedictine Abbey of St. Lambrecht in 1503. The castle had five mighty round towers with battlements; double shot-holes flanked the high forcing walls, all of which had battlements. The actual stronghold was 5 stories high and was surmounted by a huge round tower.

The castle association Steinschloss has made it its task to preserve the still existing building substance and to make the ruin accessible. The nature park Zirbitzkogel - Grebenzen offers interesting and exciting guided tours through the ruins of the Steinschloss in its adventure program.

The castle ruins can be visited free of charge all year round. Guided tours on request.
