First mentioned in historical documents in the second half of the 10th century, the church of "Velah" is a beautiful building dating from the late Gothic period (1490 - 1514, built by Lorenth Ryeder). Its most distinctive features are probably the seven-storey tower with spire and the mighty buttresses.

The church interior is marked by stellar vaults and net vaults and a number of precious paintings and sculptures, among them gothic glass paintings (1515), depictions of the 14 holy helpers and the crucifixion scene (1509), a relief of the Mount of Olives (late 15th century) and a monumental depiction of the Last Judgment (2nd half of the 16th century).

The altar piece by the Dutch painter Jan van Scorel on the Baroque altar is St. Martin's most precious piece of art.
