Explore rural life in Kronplatz/South Tyrol on your bike!

Once the cowbells start ringing in the Southern Alps, cycling fans can’t wait to get their bikes out and ride towards spring. And those who have discovered the 500 km of cycling paths which run through the Kronplatz area are in for a truly special treat.

The Pustertal Valley cycling paths are an absolute highlight in the region: a seemingly endless choice of tracks lead through lush green valleys alongside the river Rienz, from the small town of Brixen in the West all the way to the Austrian border in the East. 65 km of pure cycling bliss framed by unspoilt nature. Easy to reach, the paths are convenient for all needs and partly paved. With the railway line running through the entire valley from Brixen to Innichen, bikes can easily be transported on the train, making cycling trips even more flexible. And if you prefer a really relaxed ride, you can rent an electric bicycle or use the local bike shuttle service.

The Pustertal Valley is characterised by countless traditions and ancient farming culture. To name but one example, no other place in South Tyrol has more farm holiday destinations than the side-valley called Gsies. There are a total of 13 points of interest along the cycling route which offer an ideal chance to relax, wind down and explore some of the things which make the valley so very special. With wine cellars, spirit distilleries, cheese dairies and wool museums or the South Tyrol Museum of Folk Traditions, visitors are spoilt for choice. And there are also plenty of chances to taste or buy delicious local produce.

Set amidst potato fields, farm houses, woods and mountains against a spectacular backdrop of untouched nature, the valley also has a number of vibrant towns to offer which are sure to add that extra bit of excitement to every holiday. Located at the very foot of Mount Kronplatz, Bruneck is certainly the true jewel of the region. The "capital" of the Pustertal Valley is famous for its intriguing contrast between tradition and modern times. Its historic centre seems to offer an endless array of bars, restaurants and shopping fun. World-renowned mountaineer Reinhold Messner has opened his 5th Messner Mountain Museum , embedded in the beautiful setting of Bruneck Castle, the first exhibition will be dedicated entirely to the subject of mountain peoples and their lives, telling the story of the often ambivalent relationship between humans an the mountains. With the aid of countless objects taken from everyday life, the museum illustrates what life is like high up above the sea level within the most important mountain settlements all over the world, and their legacy.
